Three industries crying out for staff right now

If you’re looking for a new role right now, you’ve come to the right place…

Jobs are booming this summer. And this growth isn’t necessarily limited to the industries you might expect. In fact, jobs posted on reed.co.uk so far in June are up 19% month-on-month*, with a number of sectors ramping up their recruitment to find staff. Applications for these roles, however, aren’t coming through at quite the same rate – which is good news if you’re looking for a new role right now!

So, what industries are most in need of employees? And who are some of the top companies hiring?

Here are just three of the industries crying out for staff right now:

Transport and Logistics

As many businesses have been able to reopen already over the last few months, you may think that jobs in the transport industry aren’t necessarily as in-demand as they were throughout lockdown.

However, with many companies introducing increased options for online deliveries during the pandemic (side note: remember when some restaurants didn’t even deliver food to your door?), the sector continues to go from strength to strength. Which means more workers than ever are needed to keep up with demand.

HGV drivers and warehouse workers are particularly sought after (with vacancies up by 196% and 78% month-on-month, respectively), but there’s a whole range of roles on offer – with many jobs providing full training and requiring minimal previous experience to get started.

Number of jobs live: 32,000

Month-on-month increase in vacancies: 101%

Most in-demand jobs: HGV Driver, Warehouse Worker, Van Driver, Production Operative

If you’ve got excellent customer service skills, you’re in luck.

Customer service jobs are up by 45% month-on-month, with some of the country’s top employers on the lookout for people to start right away.

And it’s not just about the jobs on offer. Wages for customer service roles are also booming, with salaries in the sector rising by 27% year-on-year – the highest of any industry. There’s even a host of remote roles available too, for anyone looking for a flexible career to fit around their personal schedule.

Most in-demand jobs: Customer Service Assistant, Customer Service Coordinator, Call Handler.

IT

The necessary rise of remote working during the pandemic may have taken a certain level of adjustment. But it’s also undoubtedly led to significant enhancements for many companies’ IT systems – whether that be through introducing new digital communication tools, strengthening network security, or just providing frontline support for those working from home

As a result of these changes, tech roles continue to increase in demand. Not only is it now one of reed.co.uk’s largest sectors in terms of volume of jobs available, it’s also one that is steadily rising in terms of growth – with tech roles up by 15% compared to last month.

Top roles in this industry include support workers and software developers, but there are jobs out there to suit all specialisms and ability levels. And if you’re looking to change careers, don’t panic. We also have a number of IT courses to help get you up-to-speed.
