The top courses to help you get hired March 2017

So it looks as if spring has finally sprung…

That means that after a long, cold and, for most of us, unproductive winter, it’s finally time to stop making excuses and start making the most of 2017. And as March is a month that’s synonymous with new beginnings, there isn’t a better time to do it than right now… (Cue: cunning segway).

To help you get your brand new start, here are three of the top courses you could be taking right now:

CIM

When it comes to working in Marketing, getting to grips with your acronyms is essential. And CIM is a pretty good one to start off with.

The industry standard when it comes to getting certified, the Chartered Institute of Marketing offer a range of qualifications to help you learn the craft, and this entry course is perfect for anyone who’s just starting out on the ladder.

Not only will it cover the basics, such as understanding marketing principles and customer communications, it will also introduce key words, allowing you to understand terms like ‘SEO’, ‘CTA’ and ‘CRO’ without having to resort to Google.

Once completed, you can either move onto next level of CIM, or even start applying for roles such as Digital Marketing Assistant and Social Media Marketing Assistant.

You’ll also be able to throw a few knowing nods in when watching Mad Men. You know, if you like that kind of thing…

What do I need? No previous experience necessary.

How long will it last? 12 months (if taken part-time).

Perfect for: People who always think above the fold.

Gardening & Landscaping

Ready to turn over a new leaf? We’ve got you covered.

This comprehensive Gardening & Landscaping course will teach you everything you need to know to put your green fingers to the test, covering everything from planting to cultivation.

And it’s not just limited to pruning your pelargonium. The course also includes a number of landscaping-specific modules, providing you with all the encouragement you need to turn your hobby into a full-time career.

No previous experience is needed to get started, so it doesn’t matter if you have absolutely no success when it comes to growing your own (see also: serial plant killers). And the best part? The whole course is available for just £59 for the rest of March.

N.B. You may or may not have to buy your own gloves…

What do I need? No previous experience necessary.

How long will it last? Around 30 hours of part-time study.

Perfect for: People who are obsessed with shrubberies*.

University courses

For some of us, moving away to uni is the best time of our lives.

Unfortunately, not everyone had the opportunity to continue higher education first time round. But the good news is, it’s never too late to start learning – even if you don’t want to take it on full-time.

There are hundreds of graduate and post-graduate courses available on reed.co.uk right now, in subjects ranging from IT and Accountancy, through to Sport Management, Marketing, Psychology and Criminology.

Programmes are on offer with the likes of the University of Buckinghamshire, the University of Lincoln and the University of Essex, to name just a few. So whether you’re looking to finally complete your masters, or you just want to take a new direction in your career, it’s never too late to get your degree.

Almost all of the courses on offer can be taken part-time, and completed through a series of online classes – especially helpful for those who have other commitments they need to work around.

Because nothing should stand in the way of getting the qualification you deserve… (Sorry unruly toddlers/dead-end jobs/no free time/delete where appropriate).

What do I need? Specific qualifications will vary depending on the course.

How long will it last? Somewhere between six months and three years.

Perfect for: People who want to go back to school (but without the students).
