Description
Types 1 & Types 2 Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic condition where the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't produce enough to maintain normal blood sugar levels. It’s much more common than Type 1 and is typically diagnosed in adults, although increasing numbers of children and adolescents are being diagnosed due to rising obesity rates.
In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas still produces insulin, but the body's cells don’t respond effectively to it. Over time, the pancreas may not be able to produce enough insulin to keep blood sugar levels stable.
Symptoms of Type 2 diabetes are similar to Type 1 but can be more gradual, including increased thirst, frequent urination, slow-healing sores, and unexplained fatigue. Many people with Type 2 diabetes may not show symptoms in the early stages, which makes regular screening important.
Unlike Type 1, Type 2 diabetes can often be managed or even reversed with lifestyle changes, especially when caught early.
