What you’ll learn:

This course covers all core principles of astronomy, divided into 17 key units:

  • Mathematical Skills for Astronomy – Calculations, angles, and graphical data interpretation
  • Aided and Unaided Observations – Night sky analysis and telescope use
  • Earth, Moon, and Sun System – Lunar phases, eclipses, and time cycles
  • Solar System and Celestial Observation – Planetary motion and deep-sky objects
  • Historical Astronomy – Evolution of solar system models and space exploration
  • Stellar Evolution and Cosmology – Star formation, galaxies, and the expanding universe
How you’ll study:
  • Fully online learning via the MyOxbridge platform
  • Tutor-marked assignments to track progress
  • Access to the National Schools’ Observatory for remote telescope observations
Assessment:

Students will complete two written exams and two observational tasks:

  • Paper 1: 1 hour 45 minutes, 50% of IGCSE, 100 marks
  • Paper 2: 1 hour 45 minutes, 50% of IGCSE, 100 marks

Observations:

  • One unaided observation of the night sky
  • One aided observation using a telescope
