Overview

This course is intended to bridge the gap between students and professionals, this course can be learnt by everyone who has basic electronics background. In today’s world we hear of semiconductor industry taking giant leaps in creating fastest chips and various devices, we will try to understand what goes on behind the scenes from one aspect. A chip is manufactured after going through meticulous steps in design process, this course will aim at understanding these technology processes.

Table of Contents:

  • Introduction to VLSI

This module has two sections, one is the theoretical aspect and the other is the practical terminologies. The first section consists of concepts of MOSFET and its operation. The second section explains practical methods used in making a chip, we understand what is SoC and its blocks.

  • VLSI Chip work domains

This module will explain various work domains across the VLSI field and also the steps in bringing out a chip successfully.

  • Digital Logic Design Overview

This module aims at revising the leaner with the digital electronics basics which are used on day today basis during work. It covers basic gates and their CMOS equivalents, Combination and sequential circuits, state machine design and Programmable logic.

  • Basic CMOS Technology

In this module we understand CMOS technology closely and understand many processes that happen when a CMOS is operated. This consists of theory of CMOS, Interconnect and circuit elements, MOS transistor theory.

  • Static timing Analysis in Circuits

This topic emphasizes the importance of timing analysis in circuits concentrating on both theory and problems.

  • Verilog Programming and Synthesis

Verilog programming is a must know for every digital design engineer. This course will freshen up verilog basics learnt in Engineering and will also move to some more advanced verilog programming concepts emphasizing on synthesis.

  • Design and Verification

Design and Verification is very important in chip designing process. Every chip designed undergoes exhaustive verification throughout the release of the chip. We will understand the need for verification and languages, methodologies adopted for the same.

  • Physical design and verification

In this module we will learn about chip layout design and its various concepts. Physical verification will be introduced with emphasis on LVS, DRC and manufacturing processes.

  • Design for testability

This module will help us understand the need for DFT, we will discuss some harmful faults introduced during various stages of chip designing and how they can be caught through DFT techniques.

  • Chip Fabrication and manufacturing process

This module will make us understand wafer fabrication and steps involved in the same.
