You will learn about,

The person-centred approach and the influence of positive communication methods, how to support positive behaviour, how individuals with autism can be supported to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

Completing this course will help you to develop your knowledge and understanding of autism for personal reasons or to support progression onto further qualifications and into relevant employment in the health and social care or education sectors.

The course consists of the following six units.

Unit 01 Introduction to autism.

Unit 02 Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism.

Unit 03 Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism.

Unit 04 Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism.

Unit 05 Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism.

Unit 06 Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

At the end of each unit there is an assessment that you will complete to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of each topic. Once you have successfully completed all six units you will achieve a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism.

Requirements

To be eligible for a free place you must be:

  • 19 or over at the start of the current academic year 31st August
  • Resident of England only and does not cover Northern Ireland or Wales
  • UK or EU resident of three years or longer or outside of the EU be able to provide Visa Evidence
  • Your employment status or prior level of qualification may affect your eligibility to study with some colleges.
  • You are able to complete the course regardless if you are working or receiving benefits. If you receive benefits, you will be asked to provide evidence in the form a current award letter.
