Overview

All living organisms must take in nutrients from their environment to fuel daily activities and to both build and maintain structure. Nutrition is especially critical for children as they are actively growing. Besides the primary caregiver or parent, educators play an important role in the habits children form in relation to the foods they eat. This course will discuss what is necessary to facilitate children's growth and development, both physically and cognitively.

  • Identify the nutritional messages in MyPlate and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans
  • Distinguish between type I and type II diabetes mellitus
  • Name various types of food allergies
  • Identify appropriate feeding for healthy growth and development for infants, toddlers, and young children
