Total Qualification Time

Total Qualification contains the Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and an estimated number of hours a learner is likely to spend in preparation, study, or any other learning, including assessment, as directed by, but not under the supervision of a lecturer, supervisor, or tutor.

The expected total length of time that a learner will typically take to achieve and demonstrate the level of attainment necessary for the qualification award is 650 hours, where one credit corresponds to 10 hours of learning.

So, the TQT value is 120.

Guided Learning Hours

These hours comprise all contact time, guidance, or supervision of a learner by a lecturer, supervisor, tutor, trainer, or other appropriate education or training providers.

GLH for this qualification is 80.

Method of Assessment

Each learner must create a portfolio of evidence generated from appropriate assessment tasks, demonstrating the achievement of each unit's learning outcomes. Upon completing each unit, learners must declare that the work produced is their own, and the Assessor will countersign this. This is a knowledge-only qualification. Experience in a natural work environment is not required, and the entire course is completed online. The learner will complete internally assessed work by the qualification specification.

Certification:

Ofqual Regulated Certificate: Learners will be awarded an awarded certificate upon completing the qualification assessment. It will not require any further cost at all.

CPD Accredited Certification: For the Classroom Teaching Assistant course certificate. Learners don't have to pay any additional payment.

Progression Routes

Upon achieving this qualification, learners may progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or enter the workforce.

Progression to Higher Level Studies

These qualifications offer learners various options for progression, including higher-level studies at university or Further Education (FE) colleges. Level 3 qualifications focus on developing the skills needed for higher academic studies, which differ from those required at Levels 1 and 2. These skills may include:

  • Checking and testing information
  • Supporting points with evidence
  • Engaging in self-directed study
  • Demonstrating self-motivation
  • Thinking critically and independently
  • Analysing and synthesising information/materials
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Collaborating with others
  • Reflecting on learning and identifying areas for improvement

Level 3 criteria may involve tasks such as analysing, drawing conclusions, interpreting, or justifying, which are examples of higher-level skills.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
