This Lifeguard Level 5 Training course consists of seven structured lectures, followed by an assessment, each addressing essential knowledge areas relevant to lifeguarding and aquatic safety.
The course begins with an introduction to lifeguarding, providing an overview of lifeguard roles, responsibilities, and commonly referenced certification pathways, presented for awareness rather than qualification purposes. Learners explore the scope of lifeguarding within aquatic facilities and the professional expectations associated with the role.
Water safety and risk management examine principles of water safety, hazard identification, and risk assessment within pools and aquatic environments. Learners develop understanding of how risks are identified, documented, and managed to reduce the likelihood of incidents.
Advanced rescue techniques are explored from a conceptual perspective, including awareness of rescue equipment, in-water rescue approaches, and out-of-water rescue considerations. Emphasis is placed on safety, decision-making, and situational assessment rather than physical skill instruction.
First aid and emergency response examine advanced first aid concepts, emergency action plans, and coordinated response procedures commonly used in aquatic facilities. Learners explore how emergency preparedness supports effective incident management.
Legal and ethical responsibilities examine the legal framework affecting lifeguards in the UK, ethical decision-making, duty of care, and professional conduct. Communication and leadership skills explore effective communication, teamwork, and leadership awareness within lifeguard and aquatic facility teams.
Lifeguard training and education examine training approaches, public education, and water safety awareness initiatives designed to promote safer aquatic behaviour among facility users.
The course concludes with an assessment designed to evaluate understanding of lifeguard principles, safety awareness, and professional practice concepts.
