ILSPA's Legal Secretaries Diploma course is equivalent to a level 3 qualification. It is designed to provide you with legal knowledge and practical skills to either go into employment or advance your existing career. You will learn general legal procedures, key Legal Secretary skills and various areas of law. You will also advance your word processing skills through legal document production, completing legal forms and typing professional correspondence.

You can start our online distance learning course at any time and have the flexibility of studying at your own pace. You have up to one year to complete it, however the average time is 3 - 6 months. The more time you dedicate to the course, the sooner you will achieve your qualification.

Distance Learners have the benefit of being able to choose which legal subjects they would like to study. There are three mandatory core units, then you are free to choose the subjects which are the most appealing or suitable for you.

After enrolment, you will be able to login to our Student and Member area to access your study material, coursework and Student resources. You can then work through each unit in your own time. There are no examinations as you are assessed through the coursework which accompanies each unit.

During your studies, you have access to help and support. You can submit your queries online and you will receive a response from a member of our team.

The Online Distance Learning course syllabus includes the following core units:

  • General Legal Procedures
  • Key Legal Secretary Skills
  • The English Legal System

With the choice of three of the following units:

  • Civil Litigation

Student Review:

Taking this course was the best decision I could ever have made. Not only did it help me to secure a job as a Legal Assistant but learning the foundation of the UK's common law legal system gave me great understanding of how the laws and procedures function within the court system. It has been a fantastic journey and I will strongly recommend the course to anyone who is starting their journey or wants to advance their career as a Legal Secretary. Anna Pietrzyk, Essex

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
