Course Aims

In this course you will discover how to behave more assertively and increase your presence and influence within the workplace. Learn how to display assertive body language, set appropriate boundaries, regulate your emotions and communicate respectfully and clearly.‍

Course Objectives

By completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand what assertiveness is, what it looks like and what the benefits are.
  • Know your current level of assertiveness so you can produce an action plan.
  • Utilise techniques to communicate in an assertive and respectful way.
  • Set effective boundaries and improve your ability to say ‘no’.
  • Regulate your emotions and avoid aggressive, manipulative or passive behaviours.‍

  • What does assertiveness look like? – Exploring confident body language
  • What will change if I become more assertive?‍

Module 2:

  • Assertiveness assessment- Reflect, Plan, Act‍

Module 3:

  • Communicating- Openness, active listening and respect
  • Introduction to transactional analysis
    • Understanding yourself and others
    • How to regulate your emotions and protect workplace relationships

Module 4:

  • Setting boundaries and protecting what’s important you
  • Why can saying ‘no’ be so difficult?
  • How to say ‘no’ confidently‍

Module 5:

  • Action planning- Committing to the change
