Description
About this Course
Covering a mix of geographical systems as well as how people interact with nature, this IGCSE Geography course is an excellent foundation for anyone looking to learn more about the world. Studying for this Geography GCSE qualification gives students an insight into natural processes throughout the world as well as how humans impact the world around them.
Course Content
Included in this IGCSE Geography course are the following units:
Unit 1 – River environments
In this unit, we explore the importance of water at the heart of life on Earth and how it is constantly recycled through various naturally occurring processes.
Unit 2 – Coastal environments
We will see in this unit that understanding these processes and the interactions of the system as a whole is vital in understanding conflicts that arise between development, environment and users and managing coastal environments to find a way through these conflicts and protect essential habitats in the long term.
Unit 3 – Hazardous environments
In this unit, we explore further the categorisation of hazards and contrast natural hazards with man-made hazards. We will look at examples of these hazards and how they are mitigated, risk assessed and planned for and how communities protect themselves and their property in areas of significant risk.
Unit 4 – Economic activity and energy
In this unit, we look at the opportunities our planet provides for work, activities that provide people with a livelihood on the back of a solid income and that form the cornerstone of national economies that enable nations to develop and grow.
Unit 5 – Ecosystems and rural environments
In this unit, we consider the different types of ecosystems found on Earth and where on the planet they are found.
Unit 6 – Urban environments
In this unit, we explore how urbanisation continues to affect the urban environment and the process’s effects in both LIC and HIC cities.
Unit 7 – Fragile environments
In this unit, we consider the impact we are having on the planet’s most fragile environments and the environmental challenges we face and how things like soil erosion and deforestation are helping feed into global warming and climate change.
Unit 8 – Globalisation and migration
In this unit, we will look at how TNCs are intrinsically involved in the growth of the global economy and explore the implications this has had, particularly on the locations of certain economic activities worldwide.
Unit 9 – Development and human welfare
During the unit, we’ll look at how the world has developed in the last half a century and how this has impacted the quality of life around the world.
