Overview

Keen to brush up on your knowledge of food allergens? Are you familiar with the most common allergens and how to avoid cross contamination?

Our Food Allergens course has been carefully designed by a team of knowledgeable experts to increase awareness and expand your knowledge of allergies and intolerances. Consumers must be well informed about their choices and staff are legally obliged to provide customers with detailed information regarding ingredients in food and beverages. Our course will enrich your knowledge and offer practical steps to eliminating risks when preparing, or serving food and drink.

Allergies are unfortunately uncurable, so prevention is key; they also vary in severity and for some consumers, even a trace amount of an allergen can result in a potentially life-threatening reaction.

Description

All food handlers are legally responsible for ensuring the food they manufacture, sell and/or serve is safe for human consumption. The emphasis on this has even more significance when providing food to people with food allergies, or intolerances.

The Food Allergens Level 2 course follows the format of an interactive slide show and has been divided into 4 manageable sections. Putting your newly acquired knowledge to the test, you will be presented with some multiple-choice questions at the end of each section that you must answer before progressing further.

The questions are to prepare you for the final ‘End of Course’ quiz, where you will need to answer a minimum of 7/10 questions correctly to pass the course and receive your certificate in PDF format. Should you fail the quiz, you can re-take it as many times as necessary until you do pass.

Course Content

The course consists of 3, easy to follow modules…

  1. Understanding Food Allergens– Providing a basic insight into the most common allergies in the food industry, the opening section will explore their triggers and the importance of providing sufferers with accurate information about allergens.
  2. Dealing with Food Allergens– In this module, you will acquire the knowledge to read and understand allergy information on pre-packed food labels. The legal requirements for communicating allergens has changed considerably in recent years, so we will explore the latest requirements.
  3. Serving of Non-Packed Foods– The final module will teach you how to effectively prepare and serve non-packed food, while bearing in mind your existing knowledge of allergies and intolerances.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
