Pesticides refer to the chemical compounds that are used to control or kill pests that hinder the activities of humans. In agriculture, pesticides are mainly used to kill or control pests that destroy crops or properties such as ants, cockroaches, flies, wasps, rodents, unnecessary weeds and fungi. In public health, pesticides are used to control or kill pests that are carriers of dangerous diseases such as mosquitos, rodents and microbes. Pesticides are important parts of both agriculture and public health that help ensure the quality of harvest and the health of the public.

Too much of pesticide is not good for the crop and can even lead to pesticide poisoning, and at times death. However, farmers and other agricultural personnel must have a thorough knowledge of how to use pesticide effectively, and not cause harm to the environment. The Diploma in Agricultural Pesticide Awareness at QLS Level 4 is helpful for farmers, farm workers and farm managers who want to gain awareness on agricultural pesticide and learn how to avoid harm to the environment and other organisms.

The Diploma in Agricultural Pesticide Awareness at QLS Level 4 will also help the general public to become aware of pesticides and the harm that it can cause leading to irreparable damage. The course will teach learners about pesticides, insecticides and their application. The course will also cover how pesticides and insecticides can enter our body, pesticide poisoning, signs and symptoms and how to seek emergency help in such cases. The course will also walk you through the worker protection standard requirements, Personal protection Equipment (PPE), the pesticide drift and the classes of agricultural insecticides.
