Dignity in care means providing care that supports the self-respect of the person, recognising their capacities and ambitions, and does nothing to undermine it. It defines the meaning of real everyday dignity to the lives of people receiving social care, their carers, families and friends, as well as the managers and staff who provide it. In effect, this means all of us. It also shows the links between dignity and key policy issues that relates to current legislation
Description
• Promote a culture of service user empowerment, choice & respect
• Promote the Council's Dignity in Care campaign by ensuring that the care services are delivered with dignity and respect
• Ensure staff are aware of how service users feel when they are not treated with dignity and respect
• Encourage staff to feel comfortable to challenge work practices where dignity is not promoted
