This course, delivered from our Sunderland campus, offers three different pathways which lead to an undergraduate degree in BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions. Choose from:
Software Engineering: combines the theoretical fundamentals of software engineering and programming with practical development of IT solutions using industry standard software languages and tools.
Cybersecurity: investigates the principles of cybersecurity and applies these in a work-based environment. It will explore the technical and behavioural aspects of cybersecurity to develop policies, procedures as well as solutions.
Course structure
Typically delivered over three years for the full undergraduate degree with apprentices attending one day per week.
The programme is delivered using a blended learning approach by experienced tutors using lectures, seminars, coaching, group work, computer-based learning and independent study. There is a strong element of work-based learning and project work. We'll work closely with you to ensure that modules are relevant to your business and that there are flexible study arrangements in place to fit with work commitments.
Apprentices complete a range of coursework, portfolio and practical assessments designed to test the necessary attributes for a successful digital and technology solutions graduate.
Year 1 (Level 4)
Fundamentals of digital and technology solutions – database systems, software engineering, programming, internet technologies, cybersecurity, business organisation, IT project management and computer and network infrastructure.
Year 2 (Level 5) Core modules:
Network design and security, information systems, business IT system management, big data.
Critical evaluation of IT projects and solutions in the workplace.
Route modules: BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions
Advanced software engineering and software development methods, tools and languages.
BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions - Cybersecurity
Analyse and evaluate the principles of cybersecurity in order to critically discuss the concepts of risk, threats, vulnerabilities and attack vectors.
BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions - Data Analytics
Year 3 (Level 6)Core modules:
Current trends and issues in IT, work-based learning project.
Using all the skills gained so far: investigate, design, build, evaluate and report on a software solution to a real-world problem.
Route modules: BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions
Design and develop complex software solutions.
BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions - Cybersecurity
Examines the technical skills and knowledge for cybersecurity practitioners and develops the technical and behavioural competencies.
Employees looking to upskill and in software engineering or cyber security roles.
The programme is work based and, as such, is subject to the apprentice being employed by an organisation throughout the duration of the programme. The employer must confirm apprentices comply with the apprentice eligibility criteria including funding requirements.
Our typical entry requirement is 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of two A-levels or equivalent level 3 award (ie level 3 apprenticeship). We also require three passes at GCSE grade C or above, which must include Maths and English Language, or an equivalent qualification. In addition to tariff points, an employer may set other requirements.
