Description
On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of basic life support. We will explore a range of techniques and strategies that are fundamental to life support and learn about the chain of survival.
We will cover legal and ethical considerations and preparation for real life scenarios. You will learn about the importance of personal safety when responding to emergencies. We will cover the signs of cardiac arrest, how to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths and how to administer AED.
You will explore team dynamics and cover clear and effective communication, closed loop communication and stress management techniques’. We will also cover the BLS adaptations that are required to deliver effective life support and post resuscitation care as well as dealing with BLS in remote settings.
We will cover special populations and adjustments in BLS techniques for infants, children and pregnant women as well as individuals with disabilities. You will also learn about BLS certification and recertification.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units Covered
- Unit 1 - Introduction to Basic Life Support - In the first unit we will cover the importance of basic life support, the chain of survival and the legal and ethical considerations. We will focus on personal safety and the psychological considerations.
- Unit 2 - Basic Life Support techniques - In this unit we will explore the practical skills required to respond effectively to a life-threatening emergency. We will focus on a range of essential techniques that are critical and you will learn how to recognize and assess the signs of cardiac arrest and also cover the steps for managing choking emergencies.
- Unit 3 - Team Dynamics and Communication - In the third unit we explore team dynamics and the importance of effective communication. You will learn about the method of closed-loop communication, stress management strategies and debriefing and feedback.
- Unit 4 - BLS Adaptations and Special Considerations - In the final unit we will cover the adjustments in BLS techniques for special populations and how they deliver effective care. Students will learn about the C-A-B sequence and the steps of post -resuscitation care. The final unit also covers BLS in remote settings.

This Basic Life Support course is designed for the general public, including parents, teachers and community members who wish to acquire essential life-saving skills. By participating in this course, people can learn how to respond effectively to emergencies such as cardiac arrests, choking incidents, and other critical situations that require immediate attention.
Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
