After each of the first 4 modules, you will sit a computer based exam. Don’t worry, if you’re not successful on the first try, you can re-sit the exam. However, you will need to pay a fee each time you re-sit an exam. At the end of the course you will complete a case study style synoptic assessment, which covers modules 5-6, with elements from modules 1-4.

Description

This course is comprehensive and is designed to cover the modules listed under the curriculum below.

Unit 1: Advanced Bookkeeping

This unit will allow you to apply the principles of advanced double-entry bookkeeping, implement procedures for the acquisition and disposal of non-current assets, prepare and record depreciation calculations, record period end adjustments and produce and extend the trial balance.

On completion of this unit, you will sit a computer-based test* at a local centre of your choice. Topics from this unit may also appear within the synoptic assessment.

Unit 2: Final Accounts Preparation

This unit will allow you to distinguish between the financial recording and reporting requirements of different types of organisation, the need for final accounts and the accounting and ethical principles underlying their preparation as well as preparing accounting records from incomplete information, producing accounts for sole traders and partnerships and the key differences between preparing accounts for a limited company and a sole trader.

On completion of this unit, you will sit a computer-based test* at a local centre of your choice. Topics from this unit may also appear within the synoptic assessment.

Unit 3: Management Accounting: Costing

This unit will provide you with an understanding of the purpose and use of management accounting within an organisation, apply techniques required for dealing with costs, apportion costs according to organisational requirements, analyse and review deviations from budget and report these to management and apply management accounting techniques to support decision making.

On completion of this unit, you will sit a computer-based test* at a local centre of your choice. Topics from this unit may also appear within the synoptic assessment.

Unit 4: Indirect Tax

This unit will provide you with an understanding of applying VAT legislation requirements, accurately completing VAT returns and submitting them in a timely manner, the implications for the business of errors, omissions, late filing and payment as well as reporting VAT-related information within the organisation in accordance with regulatory and organisation requirements.

On completion of this unit, you will sit a computer-based test* at a local centre of your choice. Topics from this unit may also appear within the synoptic assessment.

Unit 5: Ethics for Accountants

This unit will provide you with an understanding of the need to act ethically, the relevance to the accountant’s work of the ethical code for professional accountants, how to act ethically in an accounting role and identify actions to take in relation to unethical behaviour or illegal acts.

Topics within this unit will be tested in the synoptic assessment.

Unit 6: Spreadsheets for Accounting

This unit will allow you to design and structure appropriate spreadsheets to meet customer needs, use spreadsheet software to record, format and organise data, use relevant tools to manipulate and analyse data, use software tools to verify accuracy and protect data and use tools and techniques to prepare and report accounting information.

Topics within this unit will be tested in the synoptic assessment.

Additional synoptic assessment preparation

You will also be given an additional bonus revision unit to prepare you for the synoptic assessment. This additional unit includes revision sections for the key topics presented throughout all six units. This unit is built to give you an indication as to which areas need to be further revised and will help to identify your strengths and weaknesses.

The synoptic exam is a case study style exam, where you will work through scenarios before answering the questions. They can cover any topic from any of the units in the Advanced Diploma in accounting course.

Method of Assessment:

This course is comprised of four computer-based examinations (the results of which you will receive immediately) and a case study style synoptic assessment.

All AAT assessments are computer based, you can go through the course material qualification at your own pace, with our dedicated support every step of the way.

Assessments can be taken at centres local to you. Our dedicated bookings team will make all of the arrangements, so you can focus on your studies.

Re-sits will be charged separately. There are resit restrictions for learners aged 16-19 living in the UK (excluding Scotland), contact us for further details.

Registration with the AAT / Registering for Exams

Please note that it is your responsibility to register as a student with the AAT and without this you will be unable to take your CBAs. Learners cannot be entered for an exam if the AAT membership fees have not been paid to the AAT.
