Description

Take the Year 3 Maths Course and you’ll develop a greater knowledge of number and place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, measurements, shapes and statistics.

You’ll explore the subject through varied and frequent practice with mathematical problems that will aid understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge. You’ll learn to follow a line of enquiry, solve problems and justify your answer, while enhancing your grasp of mathematical language. The aim of the Year 3 Maths Course is to help you develop a mathematical mind that you can use to break down problems and seek solutions.

By studying this course, you will learn to:

  • Count in multiples of 4, 8, 50, 100, recognising place value along with ordering numbers up to 1000.
  • Estimate numbers using representations, read and write numbers in numerals and words while solving practical problems.
  • Add and subtract numbers with three digits, inverse operations and estimate answers.
  • Use 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables to complete multiplication and division using mental and formal methods, while solving practical problems.
  • Count in tenths, using unit and non-unit fractions, showing equivalent fractions, while completing addition and subtraction of fractions.
  • Measure lengths, mass, volume, perimeter, and how to use money.
  • Read the time, using roman numerals and a digital clock, while gaining knowledge of time in the calendar.
  • Draw 2D and 3D shapes and be able to identify angles.
  • Recognise right angles, horizontal and vertical lines, and pairs of perpendicular and parallel lines.
  • Present data in bar charts, pictograms and tables.

Who is this course for?

Designed for those who are soon to undertake or currently undertaking Year 3 Maths, this course will aid children who are eager to learn, practise and gain a better understanding of mathematical concepts and those who may need additional guidance outside the classroom setting.

The course helps children to gain a firm grasp on their studies, building on the knowledge from the previous year’s study, and allowing them to get to grips with challenges in future learning - preparing them with a solid foundation for Year 4 Maths.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
