Overview

Handling discipline and grievance issues needs to be handled with confidence; yet is often a feared activity. Done correctly it helps to keep staff motivated, done incorrectly it creates an unhelpful atmosphere and company culture, as well as potentially costing a company money in tribunals. The seminar will explore all these issues and include practical ways to make progress and handle effectively, discipline and grievance issues.

10:00 - 10:30 Definitions (Defining terms: e.g. discipline, grievances, what is problem people behaviour, establishing why we need to have rules and procedures and company policies, the role of legislation in disciplines and grievances)

10:30 - 10:45 The Improvement and Punishment Balance (What viewpoints do we hold on blame or gain)

10:45 - 11:00 Setting SMART Objectives and Standards (Reasons for unacceptable performance, identifying and solving competence and commitment issues)

11:00 - 11:15: Coffee break

11:15 - 12:00 Identifying and Solving Typical Problems (Correctly identifying unacceptable attendance, relationships / behaviour; and determining when to counsel, coach, or discipline)

12:00 - 13:00 Solving Problems by Using a Three Step Model Approach (Identifying all the keys actions needed in: Investigating and establishing facts; Exploring and checking; Establishing possible actions and deciding)

13:00 - 13:45 Lunch

13:45 - 14:30 How to Interview (Handling the discipline interview and Handling the grievance interview)

14:30 - 15:00 Spending Time on Prevention (Raising morale at work and improving motivation at work, using The Recipe for Managing People the Right Way)

15:15 - 16:30 Dismissal (Handling dismissal with confidence, using the five per cent view of discipline and grievances)
