Description
The profession of a Teaching Assistant is one that is entertaining and pleasurable and offers convenient working hours. Working along with teachers, teaching assistants help the students to make the best out of what they learn. In the classroom, a teaching assistant offers support to the students and assistance to the teacher, hence the name, classroom assistants. In the absence of a teacher, a teaching assistant takes on the responsibility of supervising the class. The role played by a teaching assistant is often dependent on the age of the children.
A teaching assistant who works in a primary school that has children from the age of three to eleven has to perform tasks like help the children who require extra assistance to finish tasks, narrate stories to students, read books to them, care for students who appear disturbed and upset, assist the class teacher in supervising the class, etc. Some areas in which most teaching assistants specialize are Literacy, Special Education Needs, Numeracy, etc. In certain cases, teaching assistants working in secondary schools also perform as special needs assistants. In such cases, they would have to help students take down notes and even carry books and bags. In an attempt to attract skilled people from diverse backgrounds, many schools show a willingness to employ disabled individuals. Disabled teaching assistants can provide a proper understanding of the difficulties faced by the students and can help lift the hopes and ambitions of students.
School support staffs who look to develop their career as well as improve and expand their knowledge could try their hand at becoming Higher Lever Teaching Assistants. Compared to teaching assistants, they have more responsibilities and help support the development of young people.
Special care should be given to children in elementary schools as this is an important stage in the character formation of the child. Instilling a positive attitude that is necessary for their advancement is to be done in this stage.
