This interactive and engaging course equips trustees, who in many cases may also be directors, with the latest information on governance and best practice in the charity sector – helping them to ensure improved performance.
- Provides a vital introduction to the role, responsibilities and liabilities of the trustee – and the collective governance responsibilities of the board of trustees
- Explains the legal definition of a charity and the distinguishing characteristics of the different types of charitable organisations
- Brings key issues of best practice to life, using real life examples, ethical dilemmas, and case scenarios to stimulate discussion and debate
- Taught by expert course leaders who bring years of experience at board level, both as trustees in the charitable sector and in non-executive roles in the corporate world.

Description
This course will give you the knowledge and skills to:
- Understand the relationship between a trustee and the executive management, regulators, beneficiaries and members of the charity
- Clearly recognise the potential liabilities of being a trustee and understand how to mitigate those risks
- Recognise best boardroom practice as expressed in governance codes for both the charitable and corporate sectors, and guidance from the Charity Commission
- Understand the complexity around charitable purposes and the public interest requirement
- Tackle ethical dilemmas with greater awareness of best practice and governance responsibilities
- Increase their awareness of the skills needed to successfully manage a charity, and understand when and where to seek additional guidance
