Overview

People receiving healthcare services in the United States have rights and responsibilities associated with all levels of care. Caregivers and care facilities should understand and respect the rights and responsibilities of patients, their families, physicians, and other caregivers. Healthcare professionals must be familiar with patient rights in order to properly follow them and protect patients. All individuals admitted to a hospital will receive the Patient’s Bill of Rights, called the Resident’s Bill of Rights in a long term care facility. If the person is being cared for in their own home, we call this document the Clients’ Bill of Rights. This course will discuss the laws related to patient rights, what these rights are, and how care providers can ensure resident rights are maintained.
