Love is something that researchers have long tried to define and measure. In order to understand love better, it helps to view love as being split into different categories. We love friends and family differently than romantic love. This course will discuss love and relationships: what are the categories and theories of love, how do we maintain our relationships, and what happens when our relationships end.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize the difference between companionate love, passionate love, and compassionate love
  • Identify the difference between a communal relationship and an exchange relationship
  • Define Sternberg's triangular theory of love
  • Identify the components of the investment model
  • Recall John Gottman's findings about relationship maintenance

You must make an 80% or higher on the final quiz to pass this online course. Once you pass the online course and complete your course survey, you will be able to print your certificate of completion from inside the course.
