In the Faculty of Business and Law we are committed to transforming lives, businesses and communities through world-class education and research in both our triple accredited business school and Manchester Law School.
With strong links to professional bodies, global industries and the professional community, our 380 expert academic staff deliver well-rounded and quality teaching and learning, firmly grounded in the real world.
With more than 10,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled on 120 different degree programmes, the Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Met is a popular choice for students.
Our innovative approach to delivering education focused on employers’ needs and supporting graduates into the workplace is underpinned by our expertise and experience as a sector-leader in the delivery of Degree Apprenticeships. As of July 2021, we have over 2,000 degree apprentices studying across 14 different programmes and have been named the leading university provider for degree apprenticeships by RateMyApprenticeship Awards 2021. We are also an Ofsted Grade 1 Outstanding provider.

Founded in 1889, Manchester Metropolitan University Business School has a rich history of supporting industry and commerce in the city. We provide workplace-focused education to develop students into highly employable, socially and environmentally responsible professionals.
We share extensive industry links locally, nationally and internationally through the many organisations and professional bodies we work with.
Our Accounting, Finance and Banking department won the Teaching Excellence Award at the CIMA Excellence Awards in 2020, highlighting an exceptional level of student engagement.
Our Faculty
As a Faculty, we are making a difference to the local economy and have secured more than £11 million in funding to support local small to medium sized businesses (SMEs). We offer 16 programmes, currently supporting over 1,000 businesses to succeed by helping them grow their companies, innovate their products and lead in industry.
Research
We have a reputation for exceptional research impact at a regional, national and international level, working across three University Centres for Research and Knowledge Exchange:
- Business Transformations. This research centre aims to identify and inform regional, national and international industrial, digital and place-making strategies that will enable transformative change needed for businesses to thrive.
- Decent Work and Productivity. This research centre brings together specialists in leadership, human resource, entrepreneurship and organisational behaviour, to help improve workplaces of all sizes.
- Future Economies. This research centre helps businesses, policymakers and civic society identify and respond to the most pressing future challenges including Brexit, national and regional industrial strategies, green economies and mega-sporting events.
Our research in the field of Law is contributing to top-level issues and creating real change where it matters most. We’ve submitted evidence to a number of UK Parliamentary Select Committee inquiries on topics including employment and welfare policy, the recovery of the UK’s high streets and the reform of the Gender Recognition Act, and our practical research spans:
- Equalities and human rights
- Professional lives and legal education
- Sports law and popular culture
- Legal geography and the regulation of the lived environment
With research that contributes to big societal and economic challenges, and the development of well-informed and confident graduates, the Faculty of Business and Law is taking real strides towards a positive world for the future.
