Overview

Anyone working or planning to work in a range of child care occupations needs to obtain the relevant qualification approved by Ofqual, the qualifications regulator. To work in a supervised capacity requires a level 2 competence qualification for which this course is purpose designed. To work in an unsupervised capacity people will, from 1st September 2014 require a level 3 Early Years Educator qualification. Before undertaking a level 3 course, this level 2 programme provides an ideal introduction to working in child care occupations and an essential platform to the lengthier and more demanding level 3 qualification.

Rebekah Enefer asked:

Will I need a placement for this course? Thank you

This course does require a placement in a nursery or child acre facility because a some of the assessments are based upon building a portfolio of evidence of practical examples from a child care setting. The placement would need to be of around 50 hours duration over the period of the course.

Healton asked:

Learners will however require a placement in a child care setting, the placement is how many hours please and can it be done in a stay&play centre?Thx

The placement will typically need to be around 100 hourse but the time will be determined by how long it takes to gain the arnge of experiences required to collecet evidence of practical skills. The placement can be in any child care facility regulated by Ofsted.

Jay asked:

How do I obtain a work placement for this course?

Hi. Thanks for your query. Students usually contact local nurseries and request a voluntary placement with which to gain practical experience.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
E asked:

Can I complet the corse then find a placement ? How does it work? And how many days does it have to be ?

Answer:

You can start the course and complete the theoretical elements before finding a placement. The placement doesn't need to be a specified number of hours but should be a regular attendance over as much of the course as possible. A day or half day per week works well because that gives you time to plane what activities you need to engage with for the unit of the course you are studying at the time.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
E asked:

Can I start the corse before finding a placement?

Answer:

Yes you can start at any time and commence a placement later.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
asked:

If I have worked in a nursery for 3 years will I still need placement ?

Answer:

Although you have experience of a nursery you will still need to provide current practical evidence, and knowledge of current working practices, and so we do recommend that students have a placement whilst studying this qualification.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
Georgia asked:

Is this course still full and relevant as it is not showing on the government website

Answer:

The course leads to a level 2 regulated qualification awarded by NCFE Cache, and as such provides a qual which enables successful candidates to work in a supervised capacity in a child care setting. It is not however sufficient for holders to be entitled to work unsupervised and hence to count in the statutory ratios for child care settings. This would require a level 3 qualifcation such as Early Years Educator.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
