By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Understand your strategic & operational role as legal departmental head and your client employer’s perceptions and requirements for the strategic development of legal services as well as the day to day support
- Understand what size and structure your legal team should be, how to build high performance teams and how to delegate to them effectively
- Deepen your skill competencies for departmental heads e.g. leadership, communication, and time management
- Lead and manage a project
- Enhance your relationship management skills with best practice techniques for building trust & influence with your key clients
- Decipher the corporate governance issues and business and legal risks affecting your employer and your team
- Employ best practice strategies and tips for managing external lawyers
Under the SRA’s new approach to continuing competence, solicitors are expected to use the Statement of Solicitor Competence to identify and address their learning and development needs. The competence statement requires the following competencies:
- A - Ethics, professionalism and judgement
- B - Technical legal practice
- C - Working with other people
- D - Managing themselves and their own work
