Those destined to become journalists usually have more than just a passing interest in current affairs.

Designed in conjunction with industry professionals, OCA's online Introduction to Journalism course is a great way to find out if journalism is for you. 

The course focuses on the basic elements of journalism and provides an overview of commonly used terms and concepts to assist you to discover your writing strengths and challenges. 

This course is delivered online, supported with online resources. This means the participant can undertake learning activities at a time convenient to workplace demands without having to leave the work site to attend workshops. All that is required is access to a computer and the internet.

A coach is allocated to the participant and is available on-line or by phone Monday to Friday during working hours. Assessments are completed and submitted on-line to our qualified assessors who provide feedback in a timely manner.

Computer requirements
Students will need access to a computer and the internet. For students who do not have access to either a computer or the internet.

Minimum specifications for the computer are:
  • Microsoft Office 2003 or equivalent, and
  • Microsoft Windows 98, or
  • Mac OS X, and
  • CD-ROM drive.
All systems
  • Internet bandwidth of 1Mb or faster
  • Flash player or a browser with HTML5 video capabilities(Currently Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Chrome, Safari)
Students will also need access the following applications:
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader and Microsoft word
  • Macromedia Flash player.
  • Microsoft word

 

English language requirements:
If English is not your first language and you did not complete the last two years of secondary education in English, you are required to provide evidence of English language competency before enrolling into the course.

 

 

Course Study Format
This course is delivered through MP4 and ONLINE Questions method. The course is available for you to complete at your convenience over a 12 month period.
