The ILM Level 5 Certificate and Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring are ideal qualifications for managers with significant responsibility for coaching and mentoring as part of their day-to-day role. They are also designed to develop learners planning to move into a development role or start a career as a freelance coach and mentor.

The course is run over 6 days; in 2-day blocks each month for 3 months, from the Women’s Institute, Liverpool. In addition to the "classroom" days you will have the opportunity to join our monthly drop-in tutorials to help accelerate your progress, ensuring you achieve your Qualification.

This course is normally delivered twice a year in Spring and Autumn.

Description

There are 3 mandatory units for the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching & Mentoring, they are:

"Understanding the skills, principles and practice of effective management coaching and mentoring" aims to enable learners to understand the role and contribution of coaching and mentoring and build a business case.

"Reviewing own ability as a management coach or mentor" aims to give learners the ability to critically review their own personal qualities, skills and competence.

The third unit "Undertaking Management Coaching or Mentoring in the workplace" requires learners to demonstrate their ability to plan, deliver and review at least 12 hours of coaching and mentoring in the workplace.

The Certificate has a total credit value of 15 whilst the Diploma has a total credit value of 40

Who is this course for?

The Level 5 Certificate or Diploma would be ideal for Coaching Managers and Leaders. This is also a substantial undertaking requiring in depth knowledge and demonstrating practice. It is broadly equivalent to a foundation degree or some other types of degrees. We recommend this to people working in large organisations going through change or growth and where there is an opportunity to introduce coaching as a development tool in the organisation. It is really useful to consider this within HR or Training functions and clients have asked us to deliver programmes to entire teams.

Level 5 may also be useful for those starting out as a business coach at the smaller end of the SME market and we know from experience that many people want to get involved with start ups or helping people transition from employee to self-employed business owner.

Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements however your prior academic experience, continuous professional development and experience at the various levels is fairly important in choosing your path and we always discuss this prior to registering you with ILM.

We believe the Certificate at both L5 and L7 can be achieved in a 9-12-month time frame but it varies according to the individual. The Diploma is harder to quantify, and we generally meet with those candidates to identify a realistic timeline.

Making good progress early in the programme generally means candidates complete in excellent time.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
