This course includes the following lessons:
Unit 1: R/601/1436 Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- The unit introduces ways to address the dilemmas, conflicts or complaints that may arise where there is a duty of care.
Unit 2: A/601/8574 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
- This unit introduces the important area of safeguarding individuals from abuse. It identifies different types of abuse and the signs and symptoms that might indicate abuse is occurring. It considers when individuals might be particularly vulnerable to abuse and what a learner must do if abuse is suspected or alleged.
Unit 3: M/601/3467 Understand sensory loss
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to appropriately support individuals with sensory loss.
Unit 4: J/601/3538 Understand the process and experience of dementia
- This unit covers the knowledge and skills needed to understand dementia and its impact on an individual, as well as to facilitate person-centred care for individuals with dementia.
Unit 5: J/601/1434 Promote communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- The unit explores the central importance of communication in such settings, and ways to meet individual needs and preferences in communication. It also considers issues of confidentiality.
Unit 6: A/601/1429 Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
- The unit introduces the concepts of personal development and reflective practice which are fundamental to such roles, and ways to implement these.
Unit 7: Y/601/1437 Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children?s and young people?s settings
- The unit introduces the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion which are fundamental to such roles.
Unit 8: J/601/8576 The role of the health and social care worker
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to understand the nature of working relationships, work in ways that are agreed with the employer and work in partnership with others.
Unit 9: Y/601/8145 Promote person centred approaches in health and social care
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to implement and promote person centred approaches.
Unit 10: F/601/8138 Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to promote and implement health and safety in their work setting.
Unit 11: J/601/9470 Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care settings
- This unit covers the knowledge and skills needed to implement and promote good practice in recording, sharing, storing and accessing information.
Unit 12: L/601/8028 Provide support to maintain and develop skills for everyday life
- The unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to work with individuals to retain, regain and develop skills for everyday life.
Unit 13: L/601/8644 Facilitate learning and development activities to meet individual needs and preferences
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to support individuals to plan, take part in and evaluate learning or development activities.
Unit 14: F/601/7927 Support individuals to access and use services and facilities
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to support individuals to access and use services and facilities.
Unit 15: H/601/8049 Facilitate person centred assessment, planning, implementation and review
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to facilitate person-centred assessment, planning, implementation and review.
Unit 16: T/601/8282 Support individuals with specific communication needs
- This unit provides the learner with the knowledge and skills that address personal interaction and the use of special methods and aids to promote communication.
The qualification will confirm competence for roles such as:
- Senior care assistants/support workers/key workers in residential settings, domiciliary services, day services
- Senior healthcare assistants / support workers in community care, primary care, and acute health environments
- Senior support workers in supported living projects
- Community-based senior care assistants/ support workers/key workers, including those working in specialist areas eg dementia, learning disabilities
- Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families
- Emerging new types of workers & multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models
