Overview

Over 200 people are killed each year in accidents at work and over one million people are injured. Over two million suffer illnesses caused by, or made worse by, their work.

This half day course offers a practical and theoretical overview of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues whilst highlighting the responsibilities that individual workers have to keep themselves and others safe. This course will enable your business to comply with the legal requirement to carry out health and safety risk assessments and take action if the health and safety of employees is put at risk.

Description

This course will enable the learners to have a basic awareness of the hazards within the work place and how these can be minimised.

This course is classroom based and includes interactive discussions along with relevant workshop exercises.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the session the delegates will have an awareness of the following:

  • Understand employer and employee responsibility in the work place
  • Be able to adapt and apply the hierarchy of controls
  • Be able to identify hazards and assess risk in the workplace

  • Have a basic understanding of manual handling
  • How to work safely from a height
  • Fire safety management
  • How to safely deal with chemicals at work (COSHH 2002)
