Overview
The course covers the essentials of first aid through a variety of theoretical input and practical demonstrations. The participants will have the opportunity to discuss and practice first aid procedures applicable to adults, babies and children and can be adapted to any work situation.
Description
What will be learnt
By the end of this course delegates will be able to:
- General introduction and purpose of first aid
- Role and responsibility of first aider
- Dealing with accidents and illness
- Assessment of a situation and casualty
- Causes, symptoms and treatment of shock
- Assessment of consciousness
- Assessment of wounds and bleeding
- Fractures, sprains and strains
- Treatment of burns and scalds
- Basic life support
- Contents of a first aid box
The course will cover
- A clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Tools and techniques on how to assess an incident
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Know how to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- Be able to manage a casualty with external bleeding
- Be able to manage a casualty who is in shock
- Be able to manage a casualty with a minor injury
Who is this course for?
This course is ideally suited for individuals over the age of 16 working in, or managing a team, in all environments. For regulatory purposes, successfully completing an EFAW course will enable the delegate to act as a first-aider in the workplace.
Requirements
