Overview

Dialogues keep the novel from becoming too narrative or dragging. These also humanize the characters and reflect their personality. Dialogues should be spontaneous, but could come in various forms—a pleasant conversation, an argument, a nice chat, one with tension and disagreement—to spice up the drama or the comedy of the story.

Aside from the purposes mentioned above, dialogues give the story a push, moving it forward or providing a crucial information to proceed to the next event. Varying the lengths of the dialogue can also help in keeping it away from being boring.

Character conversation has to be concise and not too wordy. It should be able to get to the point straight without having to compromise the character’s emotion and personality.

Lines fascinate readers; most readers will have a favorite line, whether or not it was said by their favorite character. Make a dialogue that will be engraved in your readers’ minds. Start by taking this course.
