Overview

The current outbreak of Ebola in West Africa has been connected to more than 4,000 deaths since the latest outbreak began late 2013 (Weintraub, 2014). The Ebola virus, formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a rare disease caused by an infection from the Ebola virus strains. While rare, it is severe and often fatal in humans. Wild animals are believed to transmit the virus to people, and it spreads through the human population through close person-to-person contact (WHO, 2014). This course provides an overview of the Ebola virus as well as information about the current outbreak and current approaches to treatment.
