Diploma in Law (Level 3)

The Level 3 Diploma in Law is a 60 credit qualification and is the equivalent level to an A-Level or Access to higher education Qualification. It has been designed for learners who wish to progress to study a law degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required.

Qualification structure

Level 3 Diploma in Law consists of 4 mandatory units for a combined total of 60 credits.

Mandatory units (15 credit each)

• The English legal system
• • This unit provides an overview of the English Legal System to prepare learners for more substantive study in areas of English Law.
• Contract law
• • This unit will introduce learners to the principles and key elements of contract law.
• Academic and research skills for law
• • This unit develops academic research skills and the language skills needed to be able to formally present academic research in a legal context.
• Legal terminology and communication
• • This unit develops learners’ skills and how to present information in a legal context.

Assessment and verification

All units within this qualification are internally assessed and externally verified by the awarding body. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria.

Progression

On successful completion of a Level 3 Diploma in Law there are a number of progression opportunities.Learners may progress to :

• Level 4 qualification such as Level Diploma in Business Management
• Degree programme

The Diploma will provide you with a firm grounding in terms of legal knowledge and understanding, alongside the opportunity to develop the academic and research skills you will need on an LLB or BA degree course in law.

There are no formal requirements for specific prior qualifications or levels of attainment.

However, if you have not already achieved a level 2 qualification in English and/or maths, you will normally be expected to take a GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills qualification alongside this Diploma in order to support your progression to higher education.
