Overview

With our Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2 (Full Time) – Elite course you train to become a fully qualified beautician within 3 months, the fastest way to a beauty career. The course includes work placements (arranged by us) so that you get the opportunity to work in a real working environment. This course covers the full Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2 syllabus.

With 2 1/2 days in the training centre and the other time in placement - you will be able to put your new skills into practice straight away.

By offering introductions to local salons for work placements throughout  the training and the possibility of secure employment after training, this ensures that you are ‘work ready'  when you finish your training. The reality is that you could be earning in this rewarding career within 3 months.  By this time next year, you will have earned back your course fee and be enjoying the career that you've always wanted - perhaps even looking forward to progressing in this exciting industry.

This is an intensive course, but with small classes - a maximum of 12 - and live models or clients to practise on, you will amass confidence and knowledge with your fellow learners that will become like a second nature. Even if you haven't done any training for a while - perhaps coming back to the work place after a family, change of career, you'll find the training material easy to follow, our tutors are highly qualified and experienced in the real world so are used to supporting and mentoring , the classes professional and personal and the final assessments are as relaxed and stress free as we can make them.

Remember - this is an intensive course which will give you everything you need to begin  your career in the beauty industry. You'll be internationally and nationally qualified and will be able to start earning as soon as you complete the course -  as a mobile or self employed therapist, in a salon, on a cruise ship, or in spas and hotels either here in the UK or abroad.

Once qualified, you can return to progress on the  Beauty Therapy career ladder with specialist subjects in Holistic and Body Therapy as well as Spa therapy at Level 3 to add your skills making you more employable and able to offer even more to your clients.


Study Options

This course is currently only available to be studied via the traditional paper-based method.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.


Tutor Support

With this course you will have unlimited access to your own personal tutor who specialises in their field of study. It is your personal tutor's role to ensure that you receive constructive feedback and to deal with any queries you may have. You are more than welcome to telephone, fax or email your personal tutor.

You will also have access to a dedicated and friendly team of administrators and course advisors who offer sound and professional guidance and advice when you need it. This ensures that you will never feel neglected and that you will always succeed!

Assessment Method

After each lesson there will be a question paper, which needs to be completed and submitted to your personal tutor for marking. This method of continual assessment ensures that your personal tutor can consistently monitor your progress and provide you with assistance throughout the duration of the course.

Description

Syllabus

Waxing - 2 weeks

Waxing is still one of the highest demand treatments and where you can see instant results and earn almost immediately. You will master the technique of hair removal with wax safely and efficiently to ensure a smooth and hair free finish to the legs, arms, face, bikini, abdomen and underarm. You will also cover different types of hair removal products such as sugaring and hot wax to give you the platform should you wish to proceed to advanced waxing.  You will also provide advice to the client regarding aftercare and the avoidance of certain activities and the use of homecare products.

Theory sessions will cover:

  • Introduction to waxing
  • Health & Safety in relation to waxing
  • Theory - on course notes and hygiene COSHH
  • Trolley set up - equipment used for waxing
  • Contra-indications and contra-actions
  • Structure of the skin and hair, basic principles of hair growth
  • A&P structure of hair, growth types of hair
  • Speed Waxing Techniques
  • Introduction to other types of waxing systems

Practical sessions will cover:

  • Leg waxing
  • Knees & toes
  • Demonstration of bikini and abdomen waxing
  • Underarm, face, upper lip, chip and brow
  • Practical practice with other waxing systems

Facial Treatments - 3 weeks

You will learn everything you need to know to become a professional  facial therapist,  including selection and application of skincare products to suit different skin types. Learn about different cleansing techniques and how to perform a skin analysis.  Give the most relaxing and rewarding facial massage and learn how to select the best masques for your clients for the best results for all age groups and types. Also, delve into the structure of the skin and how to identify different skin disorders.

Learn how to maintain skin condition through a variety of treatments to include: skin exfoliation, skin warming, extraction, facial massage, masque treatments and the use of facial products. Such treatments must be successfully provided to a range of clients with a variety of skin types and conditions.

Theory Sessions will cover:

  • Health & Safety
  • Introduction to Facials - benefits and effects
  • Why A&P is important - bones of the head and shoulder girdle
  • Introduction to muscles - face and shoulder girdle
  • Anatomy of the skin.  Skin types and characteristics of different ethnic groups
  • Skin diagnosis, Contra-indications, diseases and disorders
  • Ageing and it's effect on appearance
  • Benefits of facial massage and movement classifications
  • Lymph and blood, composition and function in the role in improving skin and muscle condition
  • Facial masks - ingredients, types and mask application
  • Product knowledge

Practical sessions will cover:

  • Setting up equipment
  • Practical on cleansing, exfoliation and extraction
  • Skin warming techniques
  • Full facial including mask application
  • Putting the whole massage routine together

Make-up - 2 weeks

You'll learn  and practise professional  techniques and get the best results having learned about face shapes, colour, corrective highlighting and shading and the effects of lighting.  Transform your clients with the effects that you will master to offer the best day or evening make-up and develop the confidence to do occasional make - up such as photographic or bridal make - up.

This unit is about providing make - up treatment for a variety of occasions including day, evening and special occasions. You will need show that you can work with a variety of skin types and conditions (covered in the facial component of this course) It also covers the application of a wide range of products to suit different skin tones and age groups.

Theory sessions will include:

  • Consultations, contraindications, GP referrals, contra actions
  • Why A&P is important
  • Base make-up, eye-shadows, blushers, concealers, powders, day/evening make-up
  • Re-cap from facial, bones of the skull and face and how they influence the face shapes
  • Skin Structure and terms e.g. papule, pustule etc Skin types, tone and base colours
  • Ageing and make- up for mature skin - different product types e.g frosted shadows

Practical sessions will include:

  • Demonstration of application of foundations/concealer/powder and day eye make-up. 
  • Cleansing,and preparations, application of foundation, concealer, powder and day eye make - up
  • Corrective eye make - up and lips and blushers
  • Corrective day base - full evening make - up

Manicure & Pedicure - 2 weeks

Here, you will cover the basic treatments first before progressing to the luxury manicure and pedicure which will include using thermal mits and booties, paraffin wax and hot oil. Up to the minute varnishing techniques to enhance the nails and massage to help improve the general condition of the hands and feet combine to make this one of the most popular combined treatments.

These units regard providing nail treatments. Consulting with the client and preparing a treatment plan, recognising any contra indications, removing any nail polish and nail extensions( for the hands),  cleansing the treatment area and recommending suitable treatments. It covers filing, buffing, applying skin and cuticle treatments, for the feet, soaking and removing excessive hard skin, massage techniques and polishing nails.

Theory sessions will include:

  • Health & Safety, COSHH relating to Nail treatments
  • Contra indications, adverse treatable nail conditions, contra actions for manicure & pedicure
  • Sterilization and sanitization of equipment
  • Structure and function of the nail, process of growth
  • Enameling techniques
  • Bone structure of the forearm and hand and muscles
  • Circulation of the arm and hands
  • Benefits of massage and the different types of massage movements
  • Heat treatments for manicure - hot oil, paraffin wax thermal mitts, exfoliators and hand masques
  • A & P  Bones and muscles of the lower leg and circulation
  • Setting up - the differences
  • Uses of additional heat treatments i.e. paraffin wax thermal boots, exfoliators and foot masques

Practical sessions will include:

  • Manicure - demonstration
  • Perform manicure treatments 
  • Demonstration of enamelling techniques and French manicure
  • Perform second part of the manicure procedure carrying out manicures
  • Demonstration of the hand and arm massage
  • Practice manicure on each other including hand massage
  • Practice enameling
  • Demonstration of the pedicure procedure.
  • Practical pedicure up including massage sequence
  • Demonstration of foot and leg massage

 

Requirements

  • The minimum age is 18 - with no upper limit
  • No previous experience is required - although a good general education is essential
  • You must be able to speak, read and write in English fluently
