Overview

This is the new Assessor course which has replaced the old A1 Assessor course and the D32 and D33, it is also known as the TAQA Assessor course. This course is accredited and nationally and internationally recognised and has been designed for those who want to assess learners in the work environment only. This course can be undertaken anywhere you are in the world as it is online.

If you are amongst those who have never liked exams when they were in school, well I have good news for you. There is no final exam!! Assessment is portfolio based

Before enrolling on a course, students should make sure that they are following a course of study that results in formal recognition of their knowledge and skills by a reputable awarding body such as Focus Awards. Our course is accredited and recognised nationally and internationally and will enable you to assess any subject that you have competence in. For example, you will be able to assess Health & Social care, or Beauty, or Hairdressing, or Health & Safety, or Fitness, etc. depending on which area you are competent in.

Description

This course enables the student to understand how to assess competence in the work environment as well as teaching them the practices and principles of assessment. The course has two mandatory units as listed below:

Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practice of assessment (3 credits)

This is the foundation of the course as it will equip you with all the knowledge and understanding you need to become a very good Assessor. You will use these principles and practices throughout your career as an Assessor.

Unit 2 – Assess occupational competence in the work environment (6 credits)

This is the final unit of this course where you will learn how to practically assess learners within a work environment following approved standards and criteria and using valid methods of assessment.

Assessment Method:

  • You will be assessed through a series of questions to assess your knowledge
  • Unit 2 will be assessed through you practically assessing learners in a work environment and producing the evidence through work products
  • You will also be observed for unit 2

The course is delivered and assessed online using our cutting edge e-portfolio system, you will have access to a workbook with everything needed to complete, as well as Tutorial videos. Your Assessor can also be contacted via email or telephone for support.

Who is this course for?

This course is for those who want to work as an NVQ/QCF Assessor. QCF (NVQ) Assessors supports and assess people working towards qualifications in settings like colleges, training centres and work place. This particular qualification is for those who want to qualify to assess people in the work place only.

The vocational sector is expanding in the UK and abroad and with the huge investment the Government is doing in apprenticeship, there in a gap in the market for qualified Assessors.

As an Assessor your day to day job would involve the following:

  • Planning assessment with learners using valid methods of assessment
  • Providing learner with positive and constructive feedback after assessment
  • Carry out observation of learners in the work place against set standards
  • Follow standardisation procedures when assessing
  • Use methods of assessment such as observation, questioning, examination of work products, discussion, etc..

If you are tired of your current job but are skilled and competent in your field (for example, health & social care, hairdressing, childcare, etc..) you can train to become an Assessor and pass your skills and knowledge onto others.

Requirements

  • Be competent in your field, the subject you want to assess
  • Level 2 written and spoken English (Equivalent to GCSE A-C)
  • Basic understanding of assessment
  • IT literate (Internet, Microsoft office)
  • Able to understand and interpret course materials
  • Self-motivated and willing to complete and achieve
  • Have access to people you can assess within the work environment
  • Have a qualified Assessor or IQA who can provide an expert witness of how you assess learners within the work environment (if you do not have we can support you)

Career path

An employed Assessor can earn around £20-£23k to start with and this can go up to £35K per annum. On a freelance basis, employers tend to pay per learner, therefore you can earn between £300 - £600 per learner you assess, depending on the qualification you are assessing.

Hello Sean, Thank you for your message. Yes, our courses are designed to be completed by those who are working - you have 12 months of tutor support included with the course, and you can submit your assignments at any point within that time - there are no specific deadlines for each assignment, so you can submit whenever you have time - we do however, recommend that you spread the course out over the 12 months so that you're not rushing to complete at the end.
