Description
On completion of the course, students will gain a better understanding of Asthma in schools and the necessary skills to identify and respond to asthma related situations in a school setting.
You will explore the signs, symptoms, causes and triggers of Asthma and the impact of asthma on students. We will learn about asthma management and prevention, first aid for asthma attacks and when to seek emergency help.
You will gain an understanding of developing individualized asthma care plans, medication and inhaler techniques. You will learn about promoting asthma awareness in the school community and how to create an asthma friendly environment.
This asthma training for schools course is suitable for a wide range of participants , including teachers, support staff, teaching assistants and administrative staff. It is also suitable for health educators, school nurses and school counsellors.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 - introduction - In the first unit of asthma training for schools we will provide an introduction to asthma, its causes and triggers and signs and symptoms as well as the impact of asthma on students.
- Unit 2 - Asthma management and prevention - In this unit we will explore the key aspects of asthma management and prevention in schools. We will focus on practical strategies to empower schools workers to manage asthma effectively. This unit will also focus on asthma action plans, medication and in halers.
- Unit 3 - Responding to asthma emergencies - In the third unit we will learn about responding to asthma emergencies , recognizing an asthma attack and providing first aid. We will also explore the proper techniques for administering reliever inhalers and spacers.
- Unit 4 - Supporting students with asthma - In the final unit you will learn how to develop an individualized asthma care plan and how to educate students about self management. We will also cover communication with parents and healthcare providers as well as promoting asthma awareness in the school setting.

Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
