Overview
The modern lawyer requires a raft of business skills beyond the everyday requirements of providing legal advice and matching the expectations of clients. To be a successful Partner of any business providing legal services, Partners need to be able to successfully manage a work portfolio whilst devoting time to administration and management. This course will provide a raft of practical management techniques and guidance tailored to legal providers that can be implemented immediately.

- Understand the key elements of the SRA Code of Conduct
- Evaluate the roles and responsibilities of a Partner/Departmental head
- Analyse the skills and mindset required to develop as a leader
- Learn how to create a departmental business plan
- Understand the key requirements of managing a team
- Improve communication skills by applying the OSCAR model of communication
- Evaluate delegation techniques appropriate to your team
- Learn how to give and receive feedback
- Understand how to achieve Trusted Advisor status
- Improve time management and productivity of you and your team
Under the SRA’s new approach to continuing competence, solicitors are expected to use the Statement of Solicitor Competence to identify and address their learning and development needs. The competence statement requires the following competencies:
- A - Ethics, professionalism and judgement
- B - Technical legal practice
- C - Working with other people
- D - Managing themselves and their own work
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for those solicitors who wish to take the step from Senior Solicitor or Associate status to that of Partner. The course will highlight in a structured way the challenges that new Partners face, the critical skills and qualities required, and steps that need to be taken to achieve measurable goals and objectives.
