Engineering Manager

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Engineering Manager to join our team at Sipson Road! The successful candidate will effectively plan and manage all aspects of the engineering department's activities to ensure consistently reliable, safe, high quality and punctual services.

We are looking for an individual with an excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector who has the ability to meet targets, contractual obligations and commercial objectives to a high standard!

Key Accountabilities:

  • Implement all local elements of the Bus/Coach Business Plan to achieve defined targets
  • To ensure that the Engineering, Health and Safety and Environmental policies are upheld
  • Monitor outputs and processes and resolve shortcomings and issues
  • Ensure all vehicles are regularly serviced, thoroughly maintained and well presented in strict accordance with Company procedures, DVSA requirements and agreed budgets
  • Meet relevant performance and budgetary targets across all relevant work programmes, i.e. preventative maintenance, MOT, modifications and refurbishment
  • Ensure all reported defects are resolved as efficiently and effectively as is possible, with no effect to the service network, and vehicle safety
  • Responsible for all employees receiving appropriate training, induction, and personal development
  • Retain and develop high potential team members and ensure all parts of the workforce are engaged and high performing
  • Make sure that all Company Workshop/Depot plant equipment are tested and maintained up to standard
  • Ensure that effective systems are in place to control stock through frequent stock checks
  • Manage external contractors are managed and regularly review performance


  • Excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the operation of passenger carrying vehicles
  • Proven Experience and knowledge of all daily site procedures, engineering processes, health and safety regulations, DVSA standards, and people management practices
  • Experience in managing and motivating a team to achieve high standards of performance in a unionised Environment
  • Flexible approach to working hours - able to attend out-of- hours where required to meet service delivery and vehicle audits, and to be able to respond quickly to any "on-call" requirements
  • Thorough appreciation of the needs of external customers and external stakeholders, coupled with the ability to identify areas for improvement and implement effective action plans
  • Ability to build suitable relationships with contractors through regular monitoring and structured meetings
