Do you like working with children aged 5 to 16 on improving their overall health and fitness? If so, then this is the perfect course for you. The Discovery Learning Children’s Fitness course is designed to teach you the best ways to deliver fun, safe and effective physical exercise sessions for children.

Description

FORMAT

This is a blended learning part-time course that would require a minimum of four weeks home learning followed by one full weekend attendance. At the end, students are required to submit a video exam.

Modules

On this course, you will learn:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Principles of Exercise and Health
  • Maintaining Health, Safety and Welfare in Fitness Environments
  • Programming Safe and Effective Children's Class
  • Instructing Safe and Effective Children's Class
  • Supporting Your Group to Adhere to Exercise, inclusive of common child conditions such as asthma, dyspraxia and obesity

ASSESSMENT

While studying health related exercise with Discovery Learning, you will have full access to our online interactive study platform that includes video tutorials, images, manuals, mock exam questions as well as other learning tools to aid you. You will also benefit from our Student Support team who can assist with problems outside the classroom as well as our in-house tutors who will be there to assist the students on the course days.

You will need to complete the following assessments:

- 1 x case study (to be completed at home)

- 1 x video evidenced practical assessment - students will film themselves taking a class and send it in for review.

- 4 x Worksheets

- 2 x Theory exams (60 minutes each)

- 1 x continuous practical assessment (on course)

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for fitness instructors and personal trainers, youth workers or teachers who would like to focus on working with children and engage them in fun activities that would help develop their muscular strength, endurance and cardiovascular fitness.

Requirements

There are no prerequisites for this course but we do require that our students have a good command of English (written and spoken), some experience working with children, good level of fitness and willingness to learn.

Career path

After you successfully complete this course, you will receive a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing – Exercise and Physical Activity for Children. The qualification is nationally recognised qualification (recognised by REPs) and you will also gain 20 REPs points.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
