Overview

Sports Medicine-Exercise and Prevention of Sporting Injuries, was designed specifically for those working in the Exercise and Fitness Industry or aspiring to such posts. The course is aimed to be relevant to all who have exposure to people who require exercise prescription; with specialist interest in sports medicine.

The course was designed by an internationally known Chartered Physiotherapist, who has worked in the sphere of exercise and sports medicine at international level, in various countries.

Description

Delivered over one year, the online part time distance learning course is specially developed for busy participants of the fitness industry. The course is designed to be clinically and yet practically focused. on completion of the course and certification, participants will obtain:

  • A systematic understanding of the basics of sports medicine and exercise physiology.
  • A critical awareness of issues affecting the care of players/participants with certain related injuries
  • An advanced knowledge of sports medicine, exercise and sporting injuries; including kinesiology, physiology and anatomy of exercise
  • An ability to use knowledge to adapt professional practice to meet the high demands of exercise prescription.

The course meets the highest standards required in Sports Medicine, and would enhance national and international employment. The course lasts one calendar year, consisting of 8 modules, each of 5 week duration. The course can be completed earlier or later than the listed time period, to suit the clients study period.

Each student will be allocated their own tutor, who is contactable at all times. the tutor will also contact their own student at the end of each month to cover aspects of the module being covered, and to give advice or encouragement where required. The student will be also assessed bi-modular by the tutor to ascertain the understanding of the student.

On completion of the last module a short written question and answer will be completed, and assessed by the tutor.

  • Module One Kinesiology. Cardiovascular System. Respiratory System.
  • Module Two Musculoskeletal System. Nervous System. Internal Organs at rest. Endocrine and Lymphatic System.
  • Module Three Applied Anatomy and Function and Physiology.
  • Module Four Motion and Movement.
  • Module Five Pre and post exercise. Fluid and nutritional intake
  • Module Six Discussion on pros and Cons of stretching/flexibility and also of risk prevention and care of sporting injuries.
  • Module Seven Injuries to head and eye. Injuries to face, nose and ear. Injuries to the Spine.
  • Module Eight Injuries to the chest and abdomen. Injuries to the shoulder girdle and upper limb. Injuries to the pelvis and lower limb.
