Requirements:

Master's degree or equivalent; applicants must submit a detailed research proposal of around 2000 words outlining the thesis they wish to pursue and the methodologies that would support it; they must also submit evidence of their standards of written and practical (or compositional) work, both of which are considered at entrance interview; registration is for MPhil in the 1st instance.

Modules:

Much of the research focuses on the practical aspects of music in the areas of performance and composition, including: manuscripts; marked scores; historic instruments; museum artefacts; critical and reflective study of practice itself. Staff researchers have collaborative relationships with researchers from other disciplines, including: instrument-making; the visual arts; architecture; art history; museum curatorship; computing.
