This Level 3 Exercise Referral Diploma provides the key skills and knowledge required to establish you as an Exercise Referral Practitioner.

It is particularly suitable for experienced instructors and personal trainers seeking to work with special populations in both preventative and rehabilitative exercise therapies.

Description

What support will I get?

What will I learn on this course?

The course will introduce you to a wide range of chronic and lifestyle diseases, their aetiology and pathophysiology (cause and development) and explore exercise approaches for successful intervention into such conditions. You will learn about the signs, symptoms and basic pathology of specific stable conditions such as: Orthopaedic diseases; arthritis and osteoporosis; Cardiovascular diseases such as Hypertension and Coronary Heart Disease; Metabolic diseases such as Diabetes; Pulmonary diseases such as Asthma; Raised cholesterol and Obesity, and many other common conditions.

You will also learn about the implications and effects of specific medications relating to those conditions and most importantly how to plan, deliver, manage and evaluate a safe, effective and progressive adapted physical activity programme, personalised to individual client's needs and lifestyle.

How long is the Exercise Referral Diploma?

4-6 weeks home-study followed by:

• 2 days practical attendance workshop

• 1 – 3 hour assessments depending upon your current status

ASSESSMENT

What assessments will I need to complete?

There are a number of assessments covered on this course but it will depend upon your existing qualifications. For instance personal trainers will have completed two of the units and therefore will not need to cover these again (Level 3 Nutrition for Physical Activity and Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology). For level 2 students, they will be required to complete all of the assessments.

If you are a Level 3 Personal Trainer you will need to complete:

  1. Worksheets x 4:
    1. Professional practice for exercise referral instructors
    2. Understanding medical conditions for exercise referral
    3. Planning exercise referral programmes with patients (case study and worksheet)
    4. Instructing exercise with referred patients (worksheet, practical assessment and evaluation).
  2. Exercise Referral Case study
  3. Practical Assessment (you will need to bring somebody for this)

If you are only level 2 qualified, then in addition you will need to complete:

  1. Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology multiple choice examination
  2. Level 3 Nutrition for Physical Activity multiple choice examination

The cost for this is an additional £70:

Part Time Exercise Referral without L3 - £520

Full Time Exercise Referral without L3 - £570

Who is this course for?

Level 2 or 3 fitness instructors or personal trainers (or their equivalent) wishing to work with referred medium risk special populations that would benefit from an exercise programme to improve their current condition.

Requirements

Minimum level 2 fitness instructor (Gym based) Please note: L3 qualified students will need to provide copies of their A&P and Nutrition certificates.
