Overview
Those who operate in a supervisory role in the workplace need to be aware of their responsibilities with regards to food safety. Most food poisoning outbreaks can be traced back to the failure of those responsible for communicating and implementing hygiene standards.
These qualifications ensure that supervisors are aware of the legislation applicable to food safety and how best to communicate the required standards to employees.
An essential element of high food safety standards in any business is the ability to motivate, train and supervise staff to ensure they are competent food handlers. The relevant and practical style of the Level 3 Qualifications will ensure that supervisors have the confidence to lead by example, encourage good hygiene practices and take appropriate corrective action to make sure that all food activities are safe. On achieving any of these qualifications, competence to supervise others safely can be demonstrated.

Description
Those achieving this regulated qualification will be equipped with the necessary information to manage and supervise food safety effectively in any retail environment where food service and food sales are involved.
The food retailing environment is diverse and adequate controls must be in place for both high risk and low risk foods. This qualification will equip those responsible for managing controls with the necessary competence to ensure that safe food is sold.
One important aspect of food safety in a retail environment is ensuring that any controls applied by the supplier are continued to the point of sale. Achievement of this qualification will ensure that staff have the confidence to manage the continuity of the food safety chain in any retail situation. The qualification also focuses on how HACCP is applied to food safety in a retail environment and the role that those responsible for food safety should take to ensure that management systems are implemented and verified.
Those achieving this qualification will be compliant with their employer’s requirement to train them commensurate with their work activities. The qualification is recognised by enforcement officers and auditors from nationally-recognised or independent auditing schemes.
This qualification is achieved by completing a quiz book (6-8 hours) followed by a two day classroom based course. It is assessed by a multiple-choice examination, where the candidates must answer atleast 40 out of 60 questions correctly. A merit is awarded to candidates scoring 50 or more. The examination will take a maximum of 2 hours to complete.
Open courses are inclusive of tuition, examination fees and a course handbook. Free follow up support will also be available from your tutor.
