Overview

The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care is aimed at developing the learner’s knowledge and understanding of what dementia is and how to support individuals with dementia whilst learning to understand different theoretical models as well as different types of dementia.

Throughout this course learners will study the role of a carer in the support and care of individuals with dementia and examine aspects such as the administration of medication to individuals using a person-centred approach. Learners will also develop the ability to properly communicate with those who have dementia and begin to understand their behaviour in the context of dementia meaning they act accordingly but appropriately.

Description

The qualification will be assessed through a series of assignments that will be constructed into an online portfolio. All assignments and learning materials for the course can be accessed through our online learning platform. Students have 12 months access to the online learning platform where they may study entirely at their own pace. Learners on the course will cover the following units:

  • Dementia Awareness
  • The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
  • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
  • Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
  • Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
  • Understand the Benefits of Engaging in Activities in Social Care

Whilst on the course learners will receive the following all-inclusive features:
