On completion of this course, line managers will:

Course content

Day 1

Understanding Leadership:
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of being a leader
• Leadership models, behaviours and sources of power
• Discover your own personal leadership style and how to develop appropriate leadership behaviours

Day 2

Management Communication:
• Understand the communication cycle and its relevance in effective management.
• Understand the important of tone, language and level of formality and assess verbal versus written forms of communication
• Discuss the impact of digitalisation when communicating to your team and the measures of success for digital communication
• Analyse your own communication skills and identify your strengths and areas for improvement.

Day 3

Understanding Performance Management & Motivating the Work Team:
• Understand responsibilities for managing team, individual performance and meeting objectives
• How to ensure fair and objective assessment, conduct formal appraisals and the relevance of SMART objectives
• Setting and measuring performance standards why poor performance occurs

Day 4

Understanding Good Practice in Workplace Coaching:
• The nature and role of Coaching in the workplace
• Behaviours, skills, abilities and characteristics of an effective workplace coach including recognised Coaching Models
• Differences between Coaching and Line manager responsibilities and importance of coaching records

Assessment

To obtain the ILM qualification, you will need to complete one assignment following each module.

The assignment is a capture of your learnings from that day. We recommend a 1500 word count however this is flexible. Remember, you will have tutor and office support to guide you through your assessments.

Support

To ensure that all learning needs are met, you are required to complete a registration form whereby you can confidentially disclose any additional learning requirements you may have.

Equally, for those that haven't completed any type of formal qualification in a few years or ever, we will also provide you with

  • Support with understanding questions and structuring answers
  • Break down of questions to understand the nuance of them
  • Clear feedback on answers to know what went well and where you need to improve
  • Time to redraft answers using tutor provided feedback
