Description

Our drug and alcohol testing training courses are run in smaller groups face-to-face to enable plenty of opportunity for engagement and practical demonstrations in a workshop type format.

This one-day course is split into two parts and takes up to 7 hours; the morning session covers alcohol testing and the afternoon covers drug testing.

You'll receive face-to-face instruction and demonstration by Drager authorised trainers, who have in-depth knowledge and experience of diagnostic techniques across a range of industries. This course is suitable for all levels of staff and ensures you are fully proficient with drug and alcohol testing equipment and techniques and therefore compliant with both health and safety requirements and industry best practise.

Designed to combine the best of traditional classroom learning with hands-on workshop style practical demonstrations, this course offers a highly effective and cost-efficient way of ensuring you are certified in the process of collecting and reporting drug and alcohol samples.

Course Content:

Alcohol Policy and Testing:

We'll look at what's included in your workplace drug and alcohol policy, including best practice for drug and alcohol testing in-house.

Illegal Drugs:

You'll learn about the most commonly taken illegal drugs and how they can affect the workforce - and those around them.

Prescription Medication:

We'll discuss how to incorporate a best practice procedure towards prescription drugs within your policy, whilst encouraging employees to notify you of new medication.

Drug Testing Methods:

We'll explore the range of options for drug testing in the workplace and the best options for your company or industry.

Testing Equipment:

We'll look at the best drug and alcohol testing equipment to use and why, with practical demonstrations and hands-on practice tests.

Testing Procedures:

Pre-employment, random, for cause - we'll explore the range of testing procedures available and how to implement them effectively.

Who is this course for?

This course is for employees at companies who find themselves at various different stages of implementing alcohol and drug testing; our course is suitable for Health & Safety officers, occupational health workers, transport managers, fleet managers, HR managers, operations managers, SHEQ/QEHS co-ordinators, company directors and most job roles related to health, safety and wellbeing.

The course will suit you if you are at any of the following stages:

  • no current alcohol and drug policy but are looking to introduce one.
  • A current policy but want to review it and introduce drug and alcohol testing.
  • Unsure whether you want to implement in-house testing or out-source to an external drug and alcohol testing service.
  • Already do in-house alcohol and/or drug testing but want to review current procedure and equipment.

If you already use alcohol and drug testing equipment but only require one or two people to be trained on the equipment or if you are/want to be a provider of alcohol and drug testing services, please check out our individual workplace training.

It is always recommended that you review your current drug and alcohol policy and procedures on a regular basis.

If you are in the early stages of introducing a policy, you will receive up-to-date information on legislation and the best steps to apply alcohol and drug testing. If you are in the latter stages, then you can review your current policy and ensure you are complying with best practice procedures.

Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course and no prior knowledge of alcohol or drug testing is required. It is helpful if you bring along your current workplace drug and alcohol policy (if you have one).

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
