Overview

Basic Life Support - Level 2 - Online Course - CPD Accredited.

Welcome to our online Basic Life Support – Level 2 training course for front-line healthcare and social care providers (including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) algorithms). All our online training courses, programmes and qualifications are accredited by the CPD Certification Service (CPDUK).

It is a common expectation that healthcare and social care staff will have sufficient knowledge and skills to be able to recognise and respond to signs of clinical deterioration.

Where healthcare staff can anticipate, identify and respond to patient signs of clinical deterioration, they can prevent further decline that might otherwise culminate in cardio-respiratory arrest. Consequently, there has been a particular focus on promoting greater awareness and understanding of the needs and care of the deteriorating patient.

Description

Course aims

The aims and objectives of this online Adult Basic Life Support – Level 2 training course are to:

  • To provide the learner with a clear understanding of the legislation regarding adult basic life support,
  • Provide the learner with a full understanding of the current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance for adult basic life support,
  • To inform learners how to give essential CPR to individuals,
  • To help learners understand the risks surrounding CPR, and
  • To provide crucial adult basic life support training resources in an engaging and meaningful way.

Learning outcomes

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation learning outcomes are divided into three levels based on knowledge, skills and understanding. The appropriate level of training is dependent upon an individual’s role, work context and a local risk assessment. The levels given here are for the majority of staff who might need to be involved in delivering CPR. However, there are additional specialist levels of outcomes which need to be achieved for those who are expected to lead a resuscitation team, are resuscitation team members or teach resuscitation.

These specialist outcomes are not covered in this course. For further information about specialist outcomes, please see the Resuscitation Council (2015) Resuscitation Guidelines and the Quality Standards for Clinical Practice and Training. Where staff are exposed to and involved in the care of patients from a range of age groups, they should receive the relevant type of resuscitation training.

What is basic life support?

“Basic life support (BLS) is a level of medical care which is used for victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries until they can be given full medical care at a hospital. It can be provided by trained medical personnel, including emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and by qualified bystanders”

Why is this online Basic Life Support training course essential?

It is important to understand that the objective of providing basic life support is not to ‘treat’ the person but to buy some valuable time until the emergency medical aid arrives. BLS procedure is mainly used on people experiencing cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.

It is essential for those working in healthcare and social care environments to complete appropriate resuscitation training in line with their roles.

This online basic life support (bls) course was developed to meet the required learning outcomes in the Skills for Health’s UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) and Care Quality Commission (CQC) recommendations for health and social care providers.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
