Overview

This is an interactive, fun and easy to follow one-day BIIAB Level 2 training course. It delivers the recognised licensing qualification (APLH) for delegates working in, or preparing to work in, any industry that involves the retail sale of alcohol. A Personal Licence cannot be obtained before the completion of this course.

Description

You will leave with a thorough understanding of the requirements and responsibilities of a personal licence holder and how to pro-actively implement this in the workplace.

What you will learn From this ALPH - BIIAB Level 2 Award training course:

  • The Licensing Act 2003 and Licensing Policy
  • Personal Licence and duties of a personal licence holder
  • Premises licences incorporating operating Schedules
  • Designated Premises Supervisor
  • Temporary Events Notices
  • Exemptions and Prohibitions to the sale and supply of alcohol
  • Unauthorised licensable activities
  • Rights of Entry and Powers to close premises
  • Protection of Children
  • Definition of Alcohol under LA2003 and how it affects body and behaviour
  • Smoking, Drugs and responsible retailing

Certificate:

Attend the course and answer 28 out of 40 questions correctly in the multiple-choice exam to receive a certificate through the British Institute of Innkeeping Awarding Body (BIIAB) within 14 days of passing the exam.

Personal license:

After passing the exam you will need to make an application to your local council. Once issued the Personal Licence will last indefinitely, with no need to renew.

Materials:

A BIIAB handbook is available for each delegate*. It includes all of the key information covered in the Personal Licence course in addition to a series of activities for delegates to attempt pre-course. This is sent out in advance of the course (minimum 4 working days).

If bookings are taken after this, the handbook will be available on the day of the training.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who works in or is involved in the sale of alcohol at an operational level.

Owners or senior managers who will need to become the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) for the property to allow the sale of alcohol.

Duty managers in large bars, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets or stadia.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
